My Favorite Garden Magazine – Spring Hill Nurseries

I just received my Spring Hill order! Every year I place an order for something new to put in my yard or get more of something that worked in the yard. One of the reasons I love Spring Hill is because underneath each plant discription it tells you the zone it grows in, whether it likes sun or shade and…my favorite part, whether it is deer resistant or not!

We have lots of deer and Spring Hill has been a great help in finding plants that will survive those beautiful but pesky animals.  Wonderful advice that is cost effective. We have been on this property, that we built on, for 7 years now and are finally figuring out what will be safe to grow.

This year I purchased more Diamond Grass to create a border to our lower lawn with  Flame Grass at each end.  I purchased some carpet Phlox and a Russian Sage for our very steep bank (very sunny area), an Amethyst Astilbe for under our tree,  and then I couldn’t resist a Maximilian Perennial Sunflower (to go in the flower bed by the driveway). I’ve also purchased an  Orange & Lemon Gaillardia for outside my bedroom window.

You can see in the picture the Diamond Grass that I planted last year.  It’s only the beginning of May so they should get pretty big this summer.  Everything I recieved this year is now planted, I just have to “wait and see”…how things will turn out for this years purchases.

My daughters are both in their first home and are wanting to plant flowers and gardens. Oh how this blesses me! More things to keep us connected as a family.

Heritage Makers – It’s Your Story… Continued

Last week I introduced you to Heritage Makers. If you didn’t get to read the post you should start here.  And FYI, I know a Heritage Makers Membership would make a great gift for a mom, child or friend who likes to use words and pictures to create memories. 

This week I wanted to share some of what we have done with our Heritage Makers Membership.

My daughter Emily wrote a children’s story when she was 11 years old as one of her school projects.  That was three years ago.  This month she had it published through Heritage Makers!

What an accomplishment for this 14 year old young lady.  She now  has a hard- back book of her story forever, and will be able to read it to her children and the little neighbor girl Ava, who the book is  dedicated  too.  I am so proud of her!

We have the Premium Membership so Emily was able to choose from all of the colors, templates, etc.  This made it easy to make every single page look different… as that was very important to her. Emily loves color and design, maybe graphic design is in her future?

I have to wonder if creating a book from their written stories would in some way give our children a delight for writing.  Having a purpose or reason to create a story would maybe make writing more fun?

Emily didn’t use her own pictures in her story book,  but you can. Lesly, Emily’s sister has used her wedding pictures to create a wedding book/wedding album. This book is beautiful! It will be published during our next Digi Crop meet-up. These are very special books, one of a kind.  

Are you working on a special project and want to keep a record of the process? I think it would be a blast looking back at myself in a book, notice I said, I think!  I just love the whole Heritage Makers concept and I hope you get the chance to check it out and  get some words in print, WITH those pictures. I have lots of  pictures in a box with no names or dates on them! Ugh.

Outdoor Wedding Decorations – Canning Jars & Candles

This is a really inexpensive way to light up your yard! You can get canning jars at yard sales, second hand stores and probably from friends you know.  We  put sand in the bottom for the wax to drip into but you might not need too.

Next time I think I’ll just try letting the wax drip into the jar. It was almost impossible to get the wax and sand out of the jars.  Don’t plan on using them for canning again. I put ours in a box labeled “to be used for weddings”.

I think I have mentioned this before but the wax candles really seem to put off more light than the battery operated ones do.

Heritage Makers – It’s Your Story

Ok ladies, this is Awesome.  Something we should all take the the time to do and be a part of, really! Dr. Sharon Murdoch puts it this way “Photos without stories are memories lost.” This is so true…   Just what is Heritage Makers? Well I describe it as a form of digital scrap-booking, but really it’s so much more.

I found  Candace or Candy as some call her,  at a baby convention that was held in Spokane WA. (my daughter was pregnant at the time).  Candace is the creator of Heritage Makers.  And… can you believe, Candace lives right here in Spokane Washington! 

It is a privilege and and honer to know her personally. Candace is the most wonderful person you could meet. Besides being very creative and helpful with the Heritage Makers program (that she and her mom created! Sorry, I just get so excited when I meet entrepreneurs) she is an idea generating, caring, problem solving Queen.  I feel so blessed that our paths have crossed.

Before I met Candace at the convention I had never heard of being able to publish your own book (like it comes in the mail in two weeks). Being able to transform my words and my pictures into beautiful projects in a way that’s easy to share with others and a keepsake forever. This is a hard bound book like you can find on the shelves at your local library!

Now if you are trying to write a novel I don’t think this is the outlet for you.  But… if you want to record your child’s first year of life through pictures and words,  this is the way to go.  My daughter is doing this for my grandson Danny.  Can you just imagine little Danny looking at this book when he is older?  Or even better, being able to show his children that he was once young too?

Heritage makers has a Basic Plan that is free to use. It comes with 2 GB photo storage, 2,500+ pieces of studio art and 500+ templates.  You pay to have your book published and shipped. The cool thing is (after you sign up, which is free) you can get on the site and play with it and see if it’s something you might be interested in.

They also have a Premium Plan that offers unlimited photo storage, 45,000+ pieces of studio art and 3,500+ templates. There is a price for Premium and it’s best if you call or email and get the best plan for your needs.

You can do this on your own at home. It’s very self explanatory and if you need any advice or help your consultant is usually just a phone call away. There is also a fun way to interact with others through Heritage Makers  Digi Crop workshops (more on this next week).

We (my three daughters and I) are fast becoming friends with other ladies who also have a passion for putting their memories to print.

Next week I’ll  share about our Spokane Digi Crop with  location and time of our next meet up. Plus, creating special gifts, Lesly’s Wedding Album and Emily’s (my 14yr. old) Children’s story book. What sweet memories these girls have created.
