I’m Back!!

I haven’t been on vacation…really. I have been working hard in my little office getting ready to launch my new website.

I can’t give out any information yet, but soon! I’m very excited about this new project and I hope you will find it helpful.

My heart is to help families, and that includes mine, in planning and organizing beautiful backyard weddings without having to pay for the wedding long after it is over.

I have lots of ideas to share and…well, I really do not want to spoil what’s coming. So…be on the look-out for my announcement.

Outdoor wedding season is on it’s way… let’s get ready!

Gleaning Information and Gearing up!

Last night my husband and I visited a new wedding facility opening up in our area.  It was their open house. What fun to be around such enthusiastic (that’s a toung twister) people  who all share in the same interest. There was a DJ present, and a caterer displaying and serving her food, the bar was also open and everything looked very beautiful.

During our facility tour our host shared great information and we were able to see what they had done  in each room.  Their wedding facility had once served as an office building.  The facility will be indoor/outdoor and they can have up to 400 people with the outside space.  There are three floors which makes for lots of room.

The middle floor where you entered was  painted an off white with brown wainscotting  around the walls and had beautiful dark brown hardwood flooring. It was a nice big area for visiting. Off this room was a  children’s room. I just loved this idea! It had a big TV on the wall with some adult and child size furniture in it. A perfect place for the unhappy child or restless child to have a time out or just for parents to regroup.  I’m sure there is not child care provided by the facility.  However, if it was my wedding I might consider hiring someone to be in the room to attend children. That way the kids would have something fun to do while the parents were mingling.  Just a thought.

This middle floor had bathrooms, and a big room for a weddings to take place.   The room could probably fit a few more than 100 guests and be comfortable. With the outside of course there would be room for a lot more. There was a small wood dance floor at the front of this room.  The walls were painted an off white.  Our host thought it would be best to stay with neutral colors because every bride’s color scheem is so different.

The bottom floor was reserved for the guys.  A big table with chares was provided,  lots of space for dressing and a great place to just hang out.  The room was painted an off white with a few shelves around to put things on. I think there was also a place to hang tuxes.

The top floor was the bride and bridesmaids room.  It was painted an off white with wainscoting on some of the walls.  One room had what looked like a 6 X 6 foot mirror on the wall! Oh, I loved this. For the seating there were black chairs or benches. There were also little vanities along the wall with mirrors so the girls could apply make-up etc. The up-stairs was very spacious and had a bathroom. I could just imagine girls all dressed up swishing their gowns from one room to another, laughing, making memories and just having plain old fun.

So what did I glean from this experience? I came away thinking I should probably keep my color scheme on the neutral side. I only have two rooms to paint, the bridal room and the kitchen/catering area.  Being an outdoor facility there is not to much happening inside.

I definitely want some big mirrors in the bridal room.  I was planning to get a futon for seating in the room so it could double as a guest room when not in use for weddings.  After seeing the cute furniture our host had used for seating, I’m not sure what I’ll do now.  There will also be a table and chairs in the room. I was thinking of the tall table with the tall chairs.

The facility we were at had everything new.  This would be nice but not an option at this time. We plan to start small and add things as we go.  There were some things I didn’t find out. I wanted to know what they were going to use for garbage containers outside.  Lots of little things that need thought, which might not be major, and yet still need to be addressed.

There are so many things to consider when opening a wedding facility. Each day I add something new to my list that needs taken care of.  I’m hoping that If  I do it right this first year next will be a lot easier,  BECAUSE…I have already done it once!

Have you seen any cute wedding rooms? Any suggestions?
