A Brides Best Gift – Sewing Machine

I believe a sewing machine is another bride, “Best Gift”. There are so many simple things you can do to spruce up a new home, add to your wardrobe, etc., inexpensively if you have a sewing machine. And, by sewing things yourself you can get just the right colors and design for your project.

I know this seems like an expensive item and it is. But… as I’ve shared before, go in with other family members to purchase this Best Gift item. Most people would love to know what to get the bride and even more excited to pitch in on something that will be loved, used, and cherished for years.

Our oldest daughter left home with a Janome DC2010 that was purchased from “The Top Stitch” our local fabric store. It was purchased for about $500.00. She loves it!  It’s a great machine for a beginner or intermediate seamstress and can be used for anything: crafts, clothing and other household items.  It’s so fun to go to her house and see the things she has done with some fabric and her machine.

I taught my girls to sew while they were growing up. However, it’s easy to get into an adult sewing class. Most shops that sell machines have beginning sewing classes. Don’t let not knowing how to sew hold you back if you think it’s something you just might enjoy. Plus, why throw out a piece of clothing if all it needs is a simple repair? My machine has saved me lots of money over the years.

Eryn’s friend Hannah even came over and used it to sew a baby blanket for one of her friends. It’s a very purposeful gift (oh how I love purposeful)  that you can have a lot of fun with by yourself, and with others. My girls and have talked about taking a sewing project workshop class at our local sewing  store, The Top Stitch. They have the cutest projects to do.  And… Carrie, the owner, is as sweet as they come.

This hasn’t happened yet, but it will. We are currently doing something else once a month together (Heritage Makers), I’ll share on that later. Getting together with my married daughters has been such a blessing! I’m so thankful they want to hang out with me. :)

Are you planning a get-together with your married daughters or maybe daughters-in-law? I hope so, they need us and I know I love to spend time with them.

So,  get this “Best Gift” and stay connected!

Heritage Makers – It’s Your Story… Continued

Last week I introduced you to Heritage Makers. If you didn’t get to read the post you should start here.  And FYI, I know a Heritage Makers Membership would make a great gift for a mom, child or friend who likes to use words and pictures to create memories.

This week I wanted to share some of what we have done with our Heritage Makers Membership.

My daughter Emily wrote a children’s story when she was 11 years old as one of her school projects.  That was three years ago.  This month she had it published through Heritage Makers!

What an accomplishment for this 14 year old young lady.  She now  has a hard- back book of her story forever, and will be able to read it to her children and the little neighbor girl Ava, who the book is  dedicated  too.  I am so proud of her!

We have the Premium Membership so Emily was able to choose from all of the colors, templates, etc.  This made it easy to make every single page look different… as that was very important to her. Emily loves color and design, maybe graphic design is in her future?

I have to wonder if creating a book from their written stories would in some way give our children a delight for writing.  Having a purpose or reason to create a story would maybe make writing more fun?

Emily didn’t use her own pictures in her story book,  but you can. Lesly, Emily’s sister has used her wedding pictures to create a wedding book/wedding album. This book is beautiful! It will be published during our next Digi Crop meet-up. These are very special books, one of a kind.

Are you working on a special project and want to keep a record of the process? I think it would be a blast looking back at myself in a book, notice I said, I think!  I just love the whole Heritage Makers concept and I hope you get the chance to check it out and  get some words in print, WITH those pictures. I have lots of  pictures in a box with no names or dates on them! Ugh.

Now… I’d like to share Digi Crop with you.  I meet once every month at a coffee shop in north Spokane and have an evening with my girls, Candace (creator of Heritage Makers), and other ladies to work on our projects. You can’t beat this, a girls night out being productive and having coffee and laughs all the while.

Here is the info for our next North Spokane Wa.  Digi Crop  Where Mary Steppe , also a Heritage Makers personal publishing consultant is our hostess. Friday May 13th, 6:00 pm.

And… you can visit Candace, my personal publishing consultants website at WWW.DoctorStorybook.com  and start your book today.

You can just stop by for a demo or bring your computer and get started on a project.  Will I see you there?

A Brides Best Gift – Bosch Universal Kitchen System

When my girls got engaged I knew a Bosch Universal Kitchen System was to be their gift. It’s a high quality machine that will last for years.

The girls had grown up using mine and knew just how useful it had been in our home.

They had made many batches of bread in it,  cookies of all kinds, pretzels , rolls and the list goes on.  Our families famous coffee Mocha drink  was made in the blender almost every day. Our Bosch was part of the family and now it was to become part of theirs.

I wouldn’t know what to do without my Bosh, and I knew the girls felt the same way. The Bosch is pricey but the whole family pitched in to purchase it, grandma, aunts, me.  The girls loved this gift and couldn’t have been happier. It sits on their counter just like it does in our house… ready to use.

When the girls lived at home we attended classes at the Bosch store together(actually we still do this!)  where you learn new recipes and things about your Bosch. We even took the grandmas with us and made a day of it. You see, the Bosch Universal Kitchen System is a family thing and we have to keep  that tradition going!

My oldest daughter at one time spoke of wanting a Kitchen Aid… heresy! What she really wanted was to have a color choice. Why the Bosch doesn’t come in color’s I don’t know. But in the end she chose the Bosh system, because it’s what she knew and she loved the blender attachment.

My 23 year old Bosch machine died last year.  It had been making funny sounds for awhile and finally it started smelling and then smoking!  I got every last bit of juice out of it.  My husband said, “ Teri, really, I think you need a new one.” So… I got my new one!

The Urban Homemaker Is a great resource on the Bosch Universal Kitchen System. Sign-up at her website and claim your free eBook “Steps to the Best Bread”.  I have used her bread recipe for years. Every-time I take it to the fair I get grand champion, really!

What will be your bridal gift? Will it be something special she used at home?

Favors ~ Homemade Soap

Our soap favors turned out wonderful. They smelled delicious, were just the right size and perfect colors. And… I think the best part was all we did was wrap them up in plastic bags and tie a ribbon on them.

Our very special relative Sarah did all the work and she had a blast doing it. I purchased the materials and then the next thing I knew they were all ready to pick up. What a blessing Sarah was to us.

Do you have a Sarah who might just love to help with your favors?

Here’s hoping so,

 Teri :~)
