Reception Recipes – Grandma’s Best Ever Slush/Punch

 PB100011

My Grandma Appel was a fantastic cook in every way. And… I feel so blessed at the special gift she gave me, and all of her grandchildren. She hand copied all of her favorite recipes into a My Recipes book. There are 32 recipes written on 3×5 cards.

My grandma passed away two years ago, but she will never be forgotten in our home. I wonder if she knew how much that recipe book would be used and enjoyed. Even as my children move out on their own, grandma’s recipes are requested to put into their recipe boxes.

 Grandma Appels Best Ever Slush/Punch

4 C. sugar

6 C. water

2 – 12 oz. cans frozen lemonade

1 – 12 oz. can frozen orange juice

5 bananas mashed fine

1 – 46 oz.  can pineapple juice

4-5  tall bottles 7-Up or Ginger ale (this will be added at time of serving)

Boil sugar and water, let cool. Mix with fruit juices and mashed bananas. Pour into 4 – 48 oz.  containers (like plastic Ziploc containers) and freeze solid.

Frozen slush should sit out about 30 minutes before mixing. At serving time mix one 48 oz. container of slush with one tall bottle of  7-Up or Ginger ale in your punch bowl.

We use a fork to separate frozen slush, followed by a potato masher. Slush should be thick, do not make it runny by adding too much pop or mashing to fine.  Serves 35-45

The children just love this Jell-O Salad, and actually, it’s one of my favorites too! The Marinated Bean Salad is very yummy, especially when you get those green peppers and red onions fresh from your garden. 227_3184
