The Wanna Be Bride – 1 Week To Go

What a ride this last eight months has been. It’s almost sad to see it all end, but so exciting that something new is about to begin. I stood out with my parents on the porch this morning envisioning with them the whole layout for the wedding night. It will be beautiful, full of lights, decorations, and most of all family and friends to help us celebrate our change from single to married.

Last week I was busy with last minute running around. I purchased several needed items for our honeymoon, along with some more odds and ends for the wedding. I was also able to finish my headpiece. It now  has lots of crystals, feathers, and a few beads throughout it. I decided to embellish the headpiece we purchased from Davids Bridal by myself.  Also… I’ve almost finished all of the bridesmaids bags,  just a few more finishing touches to be done.

This week will be insane. My last day of work is Monday. Then Tuesday I start in on the baking. Cookies and cupcakes  are the first thing we will start in on.  They can go in the freezer until we need them.

Tuesday evening I’m heading into town to get my nails done, and tan for the last time. Then my sister scheduled a facial for her and I that will finish off the day on a relaxing note. Wednesday I start on the cake. That will take most of the day and that evening is the rehearsal dinner, we will have quite a crowd here.

I am looking forward to rehearsal practice so hopefully there is no surprises on Friday. Thursday will be decoration day and also piecing the cake together, with the final frosting the day of the wedding. My aunt, along with bridesmaids will be inside, outside, and all over the place helping decorate and make everything wedding perfect.

Friday the hair stylist will be here at 8 A.M. to start in on all the girls hair. I’ll put the final touches on the cake, and get my hair done last. Photos start around 3:30, so the florist will deliver our flowers at 3:00 and this big show will get on the road!

Thank you all for following my journey as the Wanna Be Bride, it was fun to journal weekly and see the changes as the months flew by.  After the wedding Teri (mom) will post photos so you can see how everything turned out after months of following us. Thank you all for your encouragement as sometimes this Wanna Be Bride got a little stressed. I hope this blog was fun and maybe helpful to someone who is thinking about having a backyard wedding. So… stay tuned. There will be interesting things to tell after the wedding I’m sure.

Thank you so much,

The Wanna Be Bride… who is so close to her happy ending!

The Wanna Be Bride – 3 Weeks To Go

It’s hard to believe that in 19 days I’m getting married! The wedding day seemed so far off for so long.  Now when we are only days away, it’s more like a dream than a reality.

We are all buzzing around like a hive of very busy bees at the base camp, i.e. home. Mother went out last week with one of her very good friends and found a beautiful dress for herself, utensils for the dessert table, and bottles of water for our guests. They also priced and looked around for table linens, more decorations, and odds and ends. Things that still need to be purchased, but we are waiting on that killer deal before buying.

My fiance’s parents came into town this weekend. They stopped by my parents to survey the grounds and see what all was needed for the rehearsal dinner they are hosting.  That evening we met in Spokane for dinner, and they gave us another shower gift from someone who couldn’t make it. It was good to see them, and in two weeks they will be back again for the big day!

The weather has been beautiful lately and the yard is looking fantastic. Dad and mom have been working tirelessly day and night to make it picture perfect for the wedding, and it’s working. I love strolling out there in the early morning and smelling the sweet summer air and imagining how everything will go.

A week ago they had a little set back – our riding lawnmower had finally cut its last blade of grass, and it bit the dust. So off to Sears they went, and a shinny new riding lawnmower was brought home. An unexpected expense, but there was no other option. Old mower, thank you for your 14 years of service, may you RIP.

Okay… next week someone from our church will come out to survey how everything will go. Thursday I get a practice run with my hairdresser on my wedding day do, and then Friday night is the bachelorette party. So a packed week, I’m sure it will speed by and I will have lots more to tell next Sunday. Until then,

The Wanna Be Bride – It’s almost here!!!!

The Wanna Be Bride – 5 Weeks To Go

Things have happened! I now have a DJ. FUEWWWW! I had begun to lose hope, when yesterday afternoon the phone rang. It was the DJ from my sisters wedding and he said he would love to host the music for our wedding! He was excited and very honored that after my sisters big day we wanted him back.

He didn’t have a problem making it to the rehearsal and wedding day, which was a relief. I had someone else lined up and was about to hire him, but he was unable to come to the rehearsal and that was a big deal to me. I have such a feeling of peace about the whole thing now.

Other big news is that we are almost finished with our marriage class. We have one more session next Tuesday. These two hours spent with our marriage counselors each week have helped my fiance and me realize that the things we struggle with and sometimes disagree on are things all couples struggle with, and that there are ways to deal with them when they arise.

It was nice to know that our struggles aren’t just specific to us, and that almost all couples have dealt with the same issues in one form or another. Their counceling is based on the Christian approach to marriage, something my fiance and I want to base our life on but have not been actively pursuing until now. I hope that this is the start of us digging deeper into the faith together and forming our lives around the biblical approach. We are both very excited about it.

Oh, I almost forgot, in practice for our wedding I baked a cake for a friends wedding a few weeks ago. It was so much fun. This was the third cake I have made for a wedding and it brings me so much joy. Designing this wedding cake also helped with ideas for my wedding cake, and I was able to play with a few new decorating styles.  I might be able to incorporate these new ideas into my cake. So much fun.

I’m sure I will have plenty to talk about next week, but until then I feel very accomplished for this week.

The Wanna Be Bride, who has a DJ for her wedding now!

The Wanna Be Bride – 6 Weeks To Go

Our DJ bailed on us! My mother timidly entered my room a few days ago to give me the news. What he originally told my fiance and I, which I heard very clearly, was that he would love to DJ our wedding. What he told my mother on the phone, and later reiterated to my fiance, was that he was sort of offering, but not really.

Okay! So! Deep breath and on with the show. Note to all brides:  follow your gut instinct. I had a bad feeling about this guy all along, but my fiance thought it would work. So, I went with it. But learn from my folly:  if it feels wrong, it most certainly is! I have contacted the DJ that was at my sister’s wedding, which would have been my original choice, and I am waiting as patiently as I can for a reply.

As my bridesmaid put it, we can just hook up the iPod to some speakers if needed and go on with the show. It’s definitely a possibility with the wedding a month out. It might be a bit late to find an available and reasonably priced DJ.

I finally got my ”thank you” cards out for the bridal shower in Seattle, and we are receiving some replies to the wedding invitations we sent out two weeks ago. Several of the grooms side have contacted us and asked about the hotels in our area. My side of the family, if past experience  is an indicator, seem to think we already know that they will be in attendance and therefore feel no need to reply. A bit of a setback. For my sisters wedding some responded… three days before the wedding. Needless to say it might be hard to estimate how many people will be in attendance.

On the upside. The church contacted us two days ago and said we could come in to fill out our “celebration form” for our pastor. We are halfway through our marriage counseling class and they have “approved” of our wedding and we can now use one of the pastors from the church. What a relief.

For this week I really need to start on my bridesmaids gifts. I’m sure once I get started on them it will be fairly easy, but I still don’t have a pattern I completely like. I will finalize the pattern this week though and get to work! It must be done. And… hopefully by next Sunday I will have a DJ, I’ll let you know . . .
